Recently I got pissed off in a LBRS because I felt that people were inconsiderate and left me to die. But once I cooled off I realized that they probably don't understand the complexity of the warlock class at level 60. I am using this forum to explain about warlocks. (And I also had a hard time coping with returning to work after 3 weeks of vacation).
At level 60 the warlock gets a new spell which is not available before the 60 level. The spell is Doom. Doom basically allows to cast a curse on the victim where it sits dormant for 59 seconds and then hits the target with 3200 shadow damage all at once. Most mobs die within 30-40 seconds and so the 60 second delay is not very helpful. Also if the victim does die directly from the damage of Doom curse then there is a 25% chance of Doomguard getting summoned and that can ruin you entire instance run.
So, how to best use the Doom curse? You can use it in combination with rogue's Sap, hunter's Freeze Trap and basically any immobilizing spell that other classes use. The Doom curse cast does not break rogue's Sap and can be cast on the mob while Sapped. Sap or sheep takes 30 to break (without interaction) and that leaves 30 seconds for Doom to hit.
Since the warlock class has to keep up with other activities in the game it is always best to use icons on mobs.
Moon - the one to be sapped and Doomcursed.
Skull - mob to be attacked first (should be caster, summoned etc)
X - mob to be attacked next
Why does this help? The answer is simple. As the caster is busy with assisting tanks by cursing targets (weakness, shadow, elemental curses, life drain, mana drain, etc.) he/she may use the TAB key to cycle through targets. As I do this I rely on the icon above the mobs faceplate and therefore can apply curse or DPS based on its icon address. This makes casting very efficient and prevents breaking sheeped or trapped mobs.
When a mob is Doom cursed and sapped or sheeped, it will stay in that form for 30 seconds and then re-enter combat. At that point there is a high chance that Doom will kill them below 50% health and summon Doomguard. You don't want that, trust me. It is therefore best to keep hitting other mobs that have not been doom cursed. You can see the green icon below the mobs faceplace until it hits. When it hits, the icon goes away and there is should be a significant drop in their health. In many cases I've seen it go down to 10% remaining health.
So, in short the thing to remember is this:
- Mark your to be sheeped or sapped target with Moon and let the lock cast Doom on it.
- Let the Sap or sheep take its course to extend the chance of health reduction by 50%
- Finish the target after doom has inflicted damage. It should very weak at that point and easy to kill.
Next is mana restore - a warlock that is not ready for combat merely because their mana is up. Warlock is pretty much made of mana and needs to cast additionally spells on him/her self which often cost 1200 mana points. That means that lock with full mana is not ready for combat just because his/hers mana is at 100%. Lock also uses Life Tap which restores 500 manna per cast at the expense of about 350 health points.
The easy thing to do in a group with warlock is to just ask if they are ready. Silence does not mean that ready btw. As a leader you should cast /readycheck and let the lock respond before starting your charge.
Especially before a boss hit!
I do realize that people just want to get online and start squeezing the trigger, because that is the fun part of playing WOW. But always remember that this is a group effort, not a solo effort. And casters have to be considered as part of the DPS group.
I would love to see this in DRE. We are capable of it, I know it, because I've played with you all before and know that you can play well. But you got to remember the warlock and mana users. Their role goes beyond soul stoning the Priest or Pali. They can turn the tide in a tough to defeat boss figths.
BTW, lock gear rarely drops, so I am almost always passing on loot. Yet my cost to repair is around 3-4 gold.
OK, well, that's my story and I am sticking with it. I hope that I have earned enough respect from those attending party and raid efforts with me to read this post through.
